Frimærkerne er udgivet 12. oktober 2005 i anledning af 200 års dagen for Hans Christian Andersen 1805-2005. “The Little Fir Tree” tells the story of a restless and perpetually discontented young sapling leaving the forest to enjoy a brief moment of glory of Christmas Eve before ending its life, forgotten, on a bonfire. “The wild Swans” is a haunting tale of how the Princess Eliza rescued her eleven brothers from their enchantment as swans by the wicked Queen, their stepmother, at terrible risk too herself. After many trials she is vindicated and finds true love. “The Farmyard Cock and the Weather Cock” compares the attitudes of the two proud birds – one strutting on at dunghill, the other fixed high above the farmyard. In “The Storks” a family of young birds mocked by a little boy, get their revenge by bringing him a dead baby brother, whilst rewarding a boy who defended them with a new brother and sister. “The Toad” tells the story of an adventurous young amphibian who ventures out from a well into the world, eventually to be caten by a stork. “The Ice Maiden” is set in Switzerland and tells of the life of Rudy, his love for Babette, the miller’s daughter and his final demise at the hands of the Ice Maiden.
